Fiji Broadcasting Corporation in partnership with Fiji Airways is calling for new and established models and designers to showcase their talents.

FBC held a soft launch of its new project from its successful TV show titled ‘Project Jejemon’, which has evolved from the successful TV show, Jejemon.

The new show will showcase 80 garments from the entrant designers. International designers, who are Fijian citizens, can take part as well.

Eight categories for designing are as follows: Evening wear, street wear, three-piece collections, resort wear, rubenesque, men’s wear, fantasy/recycle, and ethnic/traditionally inspired.

The Project Jejemon designer of the year would win a return flight with Fiji Airways to Wellington, New Zealand, and $1000 cash award.

The age groups targeted for modelling are between 17 and 24. The winning model will get the chance to meet one of Wellington’s model agencies for possible representation. Casting models will start on May 23.

The Project Jejemon model of the year will win a return flight with Fiji Airways to Wellington, New Zealand, and a $500 award.

During the soft launch yesterday, FBC’s chief executive officer Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this would encourage people to take part in the growing industry here.

“It’s an opportunity for Fijians to be able to express themselves artistically,” he said.

“It is open to every Fijian citizen. It is not a closed fashion show. Doors are open to new and established models and designers and we want to encourage as much talent as we have in Fiji to nurture them and take them to the next level.”

He said the new project would be of great benefit for the people who have passion for fashion and designing.

“It’s a long-term plan to encourage people to get into the industry as we have amazing talents in the country and if we are able to create an environment and opportunities for them to excel and get recognised,” he said.

Jejemon has evolved from a successful TV show and we will have this fashion show and it’s important that we nurture our local talent that we have because we have some incredible talents weathers it’s in the fashion industry or sporting field.”

Television Producer and Presenter for Jejemon, Andhy Blake, said the new project would be used for entertaining and increase production value for showcasing the various garments.

”The programme will have no registration fee. We are looking for a model that can go and work internationally,” he said.

“We will have a total of 80 garments. Each category will have 10 finalists from around Fiji. There will be a winner for each category. The designer will come out from one of those from the individual category.”

The gala evening award night will be held at The Tent, 69 Gladstone Road, Suva, on July 4. Registration forms are available from FBC, Suva.

Entry closes on May 4.
