Submissions For Companies Bill Closed

The submissions for the Companies Bill have closed today.

The council has received a number of submissions through various organisations and the individuals over the past three weeks.

The Chair to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights Ashneel Sudhakar said: “There have been many positive submissions and no one has actually said that the bill is wrong. People have suggested changes we will consider all these for the final report.”

The Legislation Scrutiny (LS) which consist of the committee members will now conduct weeklong meetings to deliberate and analyse the submission made.

These submissions included both the public and written submissions.

Mr Sudhakar explained: “The legislation which is the five of us sees if the recommendations are warrant,

“A lot of people may come and say things but it doesn’t mean we change it, everything’s needs to go through a lot of consultation.”

Once the council arrives at a decision the final report will be presented to the Parliament.

“When the change is warranted we include it in report and we will present it to the parliament on May 11 for them to consider,

“If they say the changes are ok we will take it on board if they say it’s not ok then it comes back to the committee,” added Mr Sudhakar

The council will also need to make consultations with the drafters the parliamentary council.

“The drafters will be consulted because if a particular change will be carried out in a given section how it will affect the other sections of the Bill.

Mr Sudhakar explained there will be no extension of submission; Friday is the last day as Parliament has given a deadline and it must be followed.
