Finally Cherie Oyagawa-Smith’s dream to operate a café with a refined family culinary style has officially opened its doors today.

Ms Smith and husband Justin Smith, both locals have finally brought the Cafe O experience to the country with the opening of their first at Eden Plaza in Martintar, Nadi.

According to Ms Smith the ‘Cafe O’ concept was created by her Auckland-based brother John Oyagawa, a chef by profession.

“He (John) has been refining his culinary style for more than a decade creating dishes with modern contemporary delivery,” she said.

Ms Smith said she was looking forward to her new venture because it was a return to what she loved and was passionate about.

“There has been substantial investment done including a second cafe, bar and restaurant will follow later in the year at The Palms Denarau which is currently under construction,” she added.

Cafe O offers breakfast, lunch, coffee; ready to go food and home baked treats in a modern yet casual and comfortable setting. Their philosophy is simple – eat, drink, relax and enjoy.

“We offer catering for private and corporate events together with cakes for all occasion’s including weddings.”

Ms Smith has extensive experience in food and beverage having started her career in the hospitality industry at the Hyatt Auckland in 1991.

Returned to Fiji in 1993 where she took up the position as Weddings and Events co-ordinator at the Suva Travelodge (now Holiday Inn). The hotel later rebranded to Centra Suva where she stayed on in the capacity of food and beverage manager.

Ms Smith believes with her current staff they will take the bar in terms of their set-up and style of consistency to another level, despite the challenges faced in the market.
