It was a proud day yesterday for the Suva Grammar School family as current and ex-scholars launched their 55th Emerald Anniversary yesterday.

Suva Grammar School Old Scholars Association president Jasmine Tam said the one-week celebration event would be about fundraising and meeting up with old friends.

“Suva Grammar is actually 133 years old. The reason why we are having our 55th Anniversary is we are celebrating the establishment of the school in 1960 here at Veiuto.

“Ex-scholars are gathering in a week from the July 11 to 18 to celebrate the emerald anniversary. It’s not so much about coming together and having a good time, but really just to make all the Grammarians aware that the school is still here and we need everybody’s help.

“We cannot totally rely on the Ministry of Education and the school itself to carry on and repair itself. It needs the help of ex-scholars, so basically the week-long event is about fundraising,” she said.

“We just want all Grammarians to know that whatever you can contribute towards your school will help.”
