Newly promoted teams will prove their worth as the Suva Rugby Union kicks off its Escott Shield competition today at Albert Park.

Suva Rugby Union chairman John O’Connor said competition would be tougher this year.

“The newly-promoted teams in the Premier division and the Koroturaga grade will be out to prove their worth,” O’Connor said.

“This will make the competition more exciting.”

Bell Air Rugby Club, Golden Eagles Rugby Club and Delaiulu Baabaas will take part for the first time in the Escott Shield                  competition.

In the feature matches, National Fire Authority take on USP Islanders at 1.30pm while Army Green takes on newly-promoted Suva Stallions at 3pm.

“Stallions and USP are the winners and runners up of the Koroturaga grade last year,” O’Connor said.

“NFA and Army will be aiming to win their first game while USP and Stallions will be out to prove that they deserve to be in the Premier grade, so it will be exciting.

“I urge all Suva fans to come down to support their teams at Albert Park.”
