Telecom Fijiana coach Iliesa Tanivula has selected a good side for the fourth leg of the World Rugby Women’s 7s Series in Canada next week.

“The game is now getting intense and getting fast and that is something we need to match,” Tanivula said.

“Fitness is one of the main factors but other areas included their skill level on what they can offer the team, how hard they have worked on and off the field.”

Fiji is in the toughest pools where they are grouped with New Zealand, England and Spain in Pool A.

“We’re in a very tough pool but we are looking forward to it,” Tanivula said. “We will be playing a tough first game against New Zealand who has set the standard in the last few years in the series.

“That’s why we play this game, we want to test ourselves against the best and we are excited. If the girls can just give it their best shot that is all anyone can ask for and I’ll be happy.”

Captaining the side for the second time, Ana Maria Roqica said they aim to do a good job in Canada especially after working with Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Ben Ryan.

“I’m happy that I’m one of the 12 because I have been working so hard to make it this far,” Roqica said.

“The girls are more confident as we trained with Ben Ryan today (yesterday).

“Being in a tough pool, Ben’s message to us was that we had cover for each other and do a lot of communicating inside the field and that is something I want the girls to do consistently.”

Meanwhile, Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer Radrodro Tabualevu is confident the team will do well.

We’re confident and know that you girls will do your best in Canada,” he said.

Telecom Fijiana team: Ella Marama, Ana Maria Roqica (captain), Rusila Nagasau (vice-captain), Litia Naiqato, Elina Ratauluva, Akosita Ravato, Timaima Ravisa, Asinate Savu, Priscilla Siata, Timaima Tamoi, Lavenia Tinai and Talica Vodo.
