Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) soldiers bound for Iraq will now leave on Monday.

The 24-member contingent was scheduled to leave Fiji yesterday.

RFMF Land Force Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho said difficulties in securing connecting flights from Korea to Iraq caused the delay.

“It’s confirmed that they will now leave on Monday,” he said.

The soldiers will be based in Iraq for a year as part of the Fijian contingent making up the United Nations guard force

Tomorrow, some of those serving in Sinai are expected to arrive at the Nadi International Airport.

They have been replaced by the 24-member contingent who departed on Thursday morning.

More soldiers are expected to be deployed to Sinai and Iraq throughout the year as part of regular rotations.
