Amicale Beats Western United

What happened: The ANZ Stadium was a sea of colours as fans of Amicale and Western United turned out in numbers sporting the respective team colours and waving Vanuatu and Solomon Islands flags. Amicale went on to claim their first win in the 2015 Fiji Airways Oceania Football Confederation Champions League narrowly defeating Western United in a thrilling encounter.
Western kicked off the action with Jack Whetney making a quick play, but was stopped short.
Both goalkeepers worked overtime as both teams went into overtime scoreless.
Halftime: Amicale 0-0 Western United
The second half kicked off with a bang as Argentinean import Miguel Magnoni breezed past the Western United defence to score.
A series of hits and misses saw the Amicale defence prevail as Western United was unable to get any goals in, ending the game 1-0 in Amicale’s favour.
Star turn: Fabrizio Pracotti and Marko Milivojevic must both be commended for outstanding goalkeeping.
Big turn: Amicale FC worked as a team to score their goal and then maintained defence to shut out Western United.
Comments: Amicale head coach Marco Banchini said, “We’re happy to get our first win. We hope to get more possession and minimise our mistakes in the next game.”
Western United manager Ricardo De Vivo said, “It was heartbreaking, but I thank the boys for their effort.”
