Ba 3 FC Gaitcha 0

What happened: Vodafone Ba started their Fiji Airways OFC Champions’ League Group A match with a 3-0 victory over FC Gaitcha at Govind Park, Ba, last night.

The Alvin Singh-skippered side played brilliantly but the more structured FC Gaitcha side showed they will be a force to reckon with on Tuesday.

Nippy striker Abbu Zahid took advantage of some sloppy defence by the New Caledonians and scored the opening goal in the 21st minute.

Midfield Malakai Tiwa was at the right place at the right time to increase Ba’s tally in the 33rd minute much to the delight of the patriotic Ba crowd. Half time: Ba FC 2-0 FC Gaitcha. FC Gaitcha up the tempo with waves of attack led by the skillful Bertrand Kai but the Ba defence stood firm.

The visitors dominated the first 15 minutes of the second half with well structured moves but Ba’s goalkeeper Misiwane Narube defended his goalmouth gallantly with some brilliant saves and long clearance kick.

Ba’s Avinesh Warran Suwany sealed the match in the 88th minute after a mistake by goalkeeper Rocky Nyikeine.

Star Turn: Ba goalkeeper Misiwane Narube made a grand OFC debut.

Big Play: Alvin Singh played well in defence.

Comments: Ba coach Shalen Lal said: “The boys played great football but we did not expect the scoreline to be 3-0.

FC Gaitcha president Paul Qaeze said, “The boys did not played according to the plan but then again it is our first time in the competition. We tried to overcome Ba in front of their home crowd but we failed.”
