The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs will complete its village demarcation project first before it finalises the village by-laws.

This was confirmed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary and chairman of the National iTaukei Resource Owners committee Savenaca Kaunisela, during the Cakaudrove Provincial Council meeting at Yaroi Village in Savusavu last Friday.

“We are still working on the village by-laws because we are still waiting for the village demarcation process to be done,” Mr Kaunisela said.

“We will get the village by-laws to their provincial office for their vetting before we finally confirm it.

“We are still left to do the village demarcation for two provinces –

Lomaiviti and Lau,” he noted.

Mr Kaunisela said once the ministry completed the whole demarcation process and had it gazetted it would then bring in the village by-laws.

“I doubt it will come into effect at the end of the year because we hope to finish the village demarcation by the end of the year,” he said.

“Right now our two teams are in Naitasiri and Ra. Once they finish that then they will taken on Lomaiviti and then Lau.”
