Father Gets 11 Years For Robbery

A man found guilty for aggravated robbery has been sentenced to 11 years four months imprisonment by the High Court in Lautoka.

Senijieli Bola, 39, with three others on August 15, 2014 in Nadi, armed and robbed Sunil Prasad and Ranjeet Prasad of $50,000, the property of City Forex Fiji Limited.

The accused however had pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Bola, together with three others, came in a car and parked in front of the gates of the car park of City Forex Fiji Limited.

Two of them ran towards Sunil and Ranjeet Prasad, employees of the said company when they were about to board into a vehicle with cash of $50,000 to go their branch at the Nadi International Airport.

One of the two was armed with a screw driver while the other was with a cane knife. They forced the two employees to lie down on the ground and then stole the cash from them.

The accused was found in possession of stolen cash with a bag while travelling in a minivan to Suva from Nadi a few hours after the crime took place.

Justice Thushara Rajasinghe said the crime was committed on employees who were exposed to such danger due to the nature of their employment and that they were required to deal with money and sometimes carry money to some other place.

Bola, in mitigation, said he was the sole breadwinner, had a 16-year-old daughter and was looking after his elderly parents.

The Justice Rajasinghe sentenced Bola to 11years four months in jail. He will be eligible for parole after serving nine years in jail.
