The University of the South Pacific (USP) has announced the resignation of its Pro – Chancellor and Chairman, Ikbal Jannif, from the USP Council with effect from 13 April 2015.

A statement from the University said Mr Jannif has resigned to take up the position of the Chancellor of the Fiji National University.

The Deputy Chair of the Council,  Fekita ‘Utoikamanu, will serve as Acting Pro-Chancellor in the interim.

Mr. Jannif was a USP Council member for just over twenty-five years. Among other positions, he served as the Chairman of the University’s Audit Committee from 1991 – 2013; and the Deputy Chair of its Council from 2007 until his appointment as the Pro-Chancellor from 1 July 2012.

“Mr. Ikbal Jannif has been one of the longest serving members of Council. As Pro Chancellor, he has led the Council during a period of considerable achievements by the University. His deep knowledge of the business of the University and of the region gave his Pro Chancellorship strength, and interest in the further development of regional campuses has been deeply appreciated by member countries.

Through his earlier Chairmanship of the Audit and Risk Committee, Mr. Jannif contributed significantly to the promotion of accountability and transparency. The University is very grateful to Mr. Jannif for his significant contributions and wishes him well in his new position and his future endeavours,” said the Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rajesh Chandra.
