What happened?

Hekari United FC have come out victorious with only nine men to beat Tefana 3-2 in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League at ANZ Stadium, yesterday.

Hekari dominated in the first few minutes with an opening goal just in the 13th minute from Dennis Ifunaoa as Hekari lead 1-0.

In the 32nd minute Hekari’s Pita Bolatoga was awarded a red card for a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick taken by Angelo Tchen to level the score, 1-1. Tension off the field added pressure to the two teams to score before half time. Hekari United

On the halftime mark Tutizama Tanito made a perfect corner kick connecting well with Haddis Aengari.

Tefana came back energized in the second spell determined to win. With a mistake by Hekari goalie Benaminio Mateinaqara failing to clear the ball quick enough resulted in a goal from Temarii Tinorua to equalize 2-2 in the 49th minute.

In the 58th minute, Tommy Semmy scored the winner for Hekari just outside the box to give them the lead again, 3-2. Tutizama Tanito was sent off in the 71st minute for unprofessional conduct.

Tefana fought hard in staging a comeback.

Tefana coach Sebastian Labayen said, “This was a very sad game for us to lose. But my boys got the experience they needed. It was sad that we lost but there are a lot of positives that we will take back from this tournament.”

Hekari United coach Jerry Allen said, “I am very happy about the win and we did it with less players which is what makes this game even more special for us. This has been a wonderful tournament for us and the game was really intense but we pulled through.”
