Akbar Cautions On Social Media

Guard yourself well from the negative consequences of the social media as many of you are not equipped to cope with the challengers that come with it.

These were the words of advice by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar, during the Fiji Rocket Stove Graduation at the Latter-day Saints (LDS) Church College yesterday.

“Parents, teachers, guardians, Elders are urged to watch their children and to monitor their use of mobile technologies to prevent them from being lured to the social ills in the society,” Ms Akbar said.

“Apart from social ills, social media can be a way to waste time and the Fijian government commitment towards education cannot be compromised, the country looks upon you to be the future educated leaders.”

Thirty students from LDS College graduated from the Rocket Stove Project and these stoves produced at the school will be distributed to unfortunate families in our communities.

Year 12 student, Iakobo Waqanivutia said he was fortunate to be part of the project.

“I learnt that Rocket Stove is very efficient and it said firewood, time and money and I am even planning to build one for my family to use,” Waqanivutia said.
