The Telecom Fijiana 7s team is settling well and ready for the World Rugby World Sevens Series at Langford, Canada, tomorrow.

This was the assurance from coach Iliesa Tanivula yesterday.

“Preparation is good. As always, and we’re getting excited and nervous as the tournament draws near,” Tanivula said.

“It’s been very cold (4 degrees), but we’ve just got to get on with it and the girls have been going through their normal routine leading up to the games.”

Tanivula credited the local Fijian community for their support.

“The Fijian community attended our training to show their support to the team,” he said.

“And a whole lot of our Fijian supporters are expected to arrive to cheer the girls.”

Tanivula said a scrimmage session with South Africa earlier in the week provided the chance to test the players.

“The scrimmage was to test a few defensive strategies that we’ve been working on and our attack from set pieces,” he said.

“The three teams in our pool New Zealand, England and Spain are well-drilled teams. So we’ve got to just play as a team, cut out mistakes, try and put pressure on them on attack and defence.

“If we can just stick to the basics and execute our skills set right, we will be in for a good weekend of rugby and hopefully improve our ranking.”

The Telecom Fijiana play their first game against New Zealand at 8.06am tomorrow, England at 11.44am and Spain at 2.44pm.
