Lomaloma As Port Of Entry?

The development of Lomaloma on Vanuabalavu, Lau, to be declared a port of entry is something the Commissioner Eastern, Luke Moroivalu, is highly anticipating.

Upon visiting Sir William Allardyce’s residence in Nabavatu yesterday, Mr Moroivalu, with his Government delegation and media reps, said the idea was currently discussed at national level.

“This will provide an enabling environment for economic activities. It will provide for villagers, entertainment, sell handicraft, lodgment, etc for those who come in once it’s developed,” he said.

“Once this is developed, perhaps Lomaloma can be established as a small town. Those who sail from NZ, USA, Tonga pass through this route and they miss the opportunities that are available here because they have to travel to the Savusavu port for clearance. And once they reach Savusavu they don’t want to travel all the way back due to fuel and other factors.”

Mr Moroivalu said they have written to the FRCA and discussions are still ongoing.
