Nabalebale Road Upgraded

Nabalebale Village has had a facelift with a rehabilitated length of road, extended bus bays and footpath, new speed humps and signage.

The village, located near the Wailevu West Coast-Savusavu junction on the Transinsular Road is home to around 300 families.

Fulton Hogan Hiways Renewal Manager, North Scott Wilkinson said that the work at Nabalebale was part of the extensive rehabilitation work Fulton Hogan Hiways was doing in the North in support of the Fiji Roads Authority.

“The entire road infrastructure in the village was a mess, it needed rehabilitation.

“ This usually follows temporary repairs to a section of a road like potholing and patching,” he said.

“When these sections can no longer hold a repair and continues to break up, the next step is rehabilitation, basically replacing that section of the road.

“In Nabalebale we replaced 800 metres of road.”

Mr Wilkinson said in addition to the road the crew replaced four “deteriorating” speed humps, with two “standard speed humps” on each end of the village.

There are two bus bays on each side of the road in the village. These have been deepened for the safer pickup and drop off of passengers as has a further two bus bays on its outskirts that service the village health centre.

Mr Wilkinson said the footpath had been extended to allow for a pedestrian crossing. Fulton Hogan Hiways has also introduced new road signage.
