Unbeaten Ba Carries Fiji’s Hopes

The Shalen Lal-coached Vodafone Ba team aim to continue their unbeaten run in the Fiji Airways OFC Champion’s League against AS Pirae at Govind Park today.

The ‘Men in Black’ leads Group A with six points from two matches after beating New Caledonia club FC Gaitcha 3-0 and Samoan champion Lupe Ole Soaga 3-1.

Lal said they were optimistic of advancing to the semifinal at the ANZ Stadium in Suva next week.

“We’re not only representing Ba but the whole of Fiji,” Lal said.

“But this is an important match for us and we need the Ba fans to come out in numbers as this is the last match of the Champions League match at home before moving to Suva.”

AS Pirae captain Roy Hakara said they need to stage a fightback after the side drew with Lupe Ole Soaga 3-3 and beat FC Gaitcha 5-2.

“This is our last match and we need to work hard,” Hakara said.

The FC Gaitcha – Lupe Ole Soaga match starts at 4.30pm while Ba – AS Pirae kicks off at 7pm.
