What happened:

A good start for the Singapore netball team after securing a 47-34 win against PNG Pepes Two in their first game of the Digicel/Punjas International Netball series.

The Singapore side displayed a well balanced attacking line having height advantage and veteran players like Premila Hirubalan and Micky Lin defending well.

Even though Singapore had the advantage of veteran players PNG youngsters provided good challenge. Singapore led 21-14 at halftime.

Big Play:

Singapore defence line looked sharp which caused Pepes problems.

Star Turn:

Singapore veteran defender Premila Hirubalan played exceptionally well.

Comments:

Singapore head coach Ruth Aitken;

“It’s always good to start with a win although it took us a while to get going. We moved a little faster in the second half which was good. Just a little bit of personal errors and we are hoping to tidy that up in our next game against Fiji.”

PNG Pepes coach Unaisi Rokoura said:

“I’m really proud of the girls’ performance.

“We have really improved on our fitness and the girls did what they have been practising for the past three months.”
