Waqa Strikes 2, Ba In Semifinals

Vodafone Ba ended their Fiji Airways OFC Champions’ League Group A match on a high note with a 2-0 victory over AS Pirae at Govind Park last night. What happened:

Vodafone Ba ended their Fiji Airways OFC Champions’ League Group A match on a high note with a 2-0 victory over AS Pirae at Govind Park last night.

What happened: Striker Saula Waqa scored twice to increase his strike rate to five goals so far in the tournament.

But the Misiwane Narube-skippered side played brilliantly with a more structured pattern. Ba will now play Team Wellington in Tuesday’s semifinal at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

In the 15th  minute Waqa drew first blood after sloppy defending from AS Pirae

Half-time: Ba FC 1-0 AS Pirae.

In the 55th minute Waqa scored his second goal for the ‘Men In Black.’

Avinesh Warran Suwamy and Keegan Linderboom had chances to score but were off target.

Big star: Saula Waqa is a star on the rise for Ba.

Big play: Meli Codro played a grand match as well.

Comments: Ba coach Shalen Lal said, “Hats off to the boys as this was another win to top the group. The boys played great football despite few sloppy moves in the first spell. ”

AS Pirae coach Samuel Garcia said, “The boys did not play according to the plan. Ba did not give us an opportunity.  We were not happy with the calls made from the referee.”

Meanwhile, FC Gaitcha has qualified for the semifinal as runner up to for their dramatic 8-1 win over 10-men Lupe Ole Soaga last night.
