Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro expects tough competition at the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea in July.

“This is the first time I will be defending my title and I feel good about my chance, “he said.

“I expect tough competition from the Samoans, Tongans and Papua New Guinea who are always producing good runners.

“Competition should also come from my fellow Fijians Albert Miller Junior and Francis Kirikirikula.”

Currently clocking 10.2 seconds in the 100 metres ,Tabakaucoro believes Fiji men’s 4x100m relay team will be on fire at Port Moresby.

“We have runners who are clocking 10.6 seconds, 10.7 and myself at 10.2. So we have a good relay team compared to previous years.”

The International Olympic Committee scholarship has really boosted the preparation for the Bau, Tailevu man.

“It has taken a lot of pressure off me and the IOC scholarship is a real blessing,”he said.

The Pacific Games is set for July 4-18.

Coca-Cola Games. Tabakaucoro believes the 2015 Coca-Cola Games should be exciting. It starts on Friday at the ANZ Stadium.

“I’m predicting a very good outing this year. Natabua High, Queen Victoria and Ratu Kadavulevu have strong teams.” He said Marist Brothers High School said Suva Grammar should step up.

“ACS should come out strong this year and West champion Jasper Williams dominated the Lautoka Zone.

“Athletes we should watch out for national reps Batinisavu Uluiyata of Natabua and Aaron Powell of Gospel who would be competing in the 200m.”
