NFA Staff Seek Move

The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Pio Tikoduadua, while visiting Government projects in Taveuni had a ‘talanoa’ session with various Government department personnel.

Mr Tikoduadua had asked those present to take turns in raising their issues with him during the session at the Waiyevo Government station last Friday.

“I know I am not your line minister but definitely I could have a look at some of the things that you need to be fixed in terms of infrastructure,” he said.

A National Fire Authority (NFA) Taveuni branch personnel present at the session raised their need to relocate its current fire station from Wairiki to the Waiyevo Government Station.

The Taveuni branch is currently operating from a rented house.

“We are renting at a house in Wairiki but we want to move closer to the Government station here at Waiyevo,” the NFA rep said.

“We have also found a piece of land opposite the grounds next to the hospital road and the land belongs to Government.”

Taveuni District Officer Kalivati Rabuka said there were no plans to develop a piece of land where an old club house was currently located.

“They have advised us of their plans but I have asked them to follow all the proper process through the Ministry of Lands for their request,” Mr Rabuka said.

Mr Tikoduadua advised the district officer to check if there were any legal issues pertaining to that land and the authority to follow the proper procedure in securing the land.

There are 15 staff members at the fire station in Taveuni who are accommodated in a dormitory in the same rented house.
