Residents of Nausori are now appreciating the peace following concerns raised by the Nausori business sector about the town’s drunk louts.

The Nausori businessman who called on Police to clear the town’s street menace said it was safe to walk again during the weekend since the issue was highlighted.

“Police have been patrolling around in this area and since then we have not had any drunkards walking around and causing trouble,” the businessman said.

“We are happy that now they are finally stepping up and doing something about this for the safety of our people.

“We hope this continues because we have had many cases where the Police are on patrol for a few days and then slack down,” he said.

The Nausori businessman said, previously he and others made numerous complaints about the many drunk people who roamed the streets and causing trouble but nothing was done at the time.

“The business community at large felt threatened and couldn’t come out reporting it because we get threatened by these people drinking illegally and doing things that are not right,” he said.

However, Fiji Police Force chief operations officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, said they would like to meet with the businessman who has made the complaint before they continue any further investigations.

“We do not conduct investigations on such allegations unless he comes forward and talk with us,” ACP Tudravu said.
