Third Win For Fiji

The Fijian Pearls won their third match in the 2015 Digicel Punjas International Series after defeating Papua New Guinea Pepes Two 62-35 at the Vodafone Arena, Suva, last night.

Fijian coach Kate Carpenter said it was an opportunity for the remaining players on the bench to get some game time in the Series.

“What we’re trying to achieve is give some of the girls who hadn’t been on court yet some game time. Some of them are young players or less experienced.

“We’re trying to get better performance from them and trying to change them across quarters. I was pleased with their performance and the different things that each girl brought to the court.”

Looking forward to the final matches tonight, Carpenter said the division of the squad into two teams would be balanced and gave all players a fair chance to play both PNG Pepes and Singapore.

“Now we assess their performance. We have got two matches so we are looking at giving players an opportunity to play against Singapore and Papua New Guinea.

“We are looking forward to another improved performance.

“One of the things we are looking at the moment is the amount of errors we have so we are looking at how we win the ball back and other areas.”

Meanwhile, in the first match last night, PNG Pepes One defeated Singapore 47-31.

The final night of the series will start with Punjas Fiji playing PNG at 5pm and Digicel Fiji playing Singapore at 7pm at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
