Trade Policy Launch Expected Soon

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism is expected to launch the first Fijian Trade Policy in the coming months.

Minister Faiyaz Siddiq Koya revealed this yesterday.

The policy will be a single reference document identifying the trade capacity, constraints and needs of each sector.

“The Policy provides a 10-year plan in terms of trade and investment,” he said.

“It also identifies the potential in the Australian and New Zealand markets while providing specific strategies to re-launching Fiji’s interest in these markets.”

Mr Koya said the PACER Plus Agreement is seen as a means of achieving that objective.

“Fiji’s main objective is to ensure that PACER Plus lives up to its purpose as a ‘development agreement’,” he said.

“And not as an unbalanced agreement that provides Australia and New Zealand unprecedented access to Pacific markets without giving anything tangible and binding in return.”
