Infrastructure was a much-discussed issue among delegates at the Bua Provincial Council meeting yesterday.

The meeting was held at Naulumatua House at Nabouwalu, Bua.

The district of Lekutu called for the Government to upgrade their roads from Bainikea, that is the Kavula Road, Nasarawaqa Road and Nukudamu Road.

As well, there were calls for road upgrades for the districts of Navakasiga, Dama, Bua, Nadi, Kubulau, Vuya and Wainunu.

Tui Wainunu Ratu Orisi Baleitaveya, who was the acting chair of the meeting, said it was urgent that Fulton Hogan Hiways cleared the bushy roadside from Solevu to Nasolo to avoid any accident from happening.

“If you take a tour from the hill of Solevu to Nasolo, there is actually bush everywhere that you wouldn’t even know which way to go,” Ratu Orisi said.

“What is the contractor responsible going to do about this because it needs urgent attention or it would be better to give the contract to a village group for them to clear the area.

“We are all affected by this issue it’s just a three kilometre work because we don’t want any accident to happen,” he said.

An official from MWH said the contractor responsible for looking after the roads was Fulton Hogan Hiways and they were currently in Savusavu.

“Before the contract for of clearing and cleaning of the roadside was given to the villagers but now it’s all being done by Fulton Hogan Hiway,” the MWH rep said.

“That area can be looked in to in the month of May.”

Ratu Orisi said they do not accept May as the answer to the work that needs to be done from Solevu to Nasolo when they can hire a group from a village to do the work.

“We are talking about development at this meeting and we are thankful that Government is helping us.”
