Apimeleki Kolinisau says he is determined to become a military commander and hopes that his dream comes true.

He wants to follow in his father’s footsteps. Mr Kolinisau Senior was a major in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

The Headboy of Ratu Navula College won the ‘Baton of Honour’ at the college’s passing-out parade yesterday.

Apimeleki, 18, originally from Namuka-i-Lau in Lau and a current resident of Votualevu, is a final year student. He was also the parade commander for the school.

“I hope to become a military commander by joining the Fijian Military after I graduate from school.

“Starting week five this year, we started our training session for the cadets, this is my third year in it and I have gained a lot.

“I have learnt discipline, respect and giving the commands to the other cadets and teaching the students the lessons.

“It has been very challenging for me as a headboy to sacrifice the time and balance duties and responsibilities with the academic study.

“I feel proud to represent Takubu House and I am very much delighted with my achievements to date.”

Apimeleki thanked God for the strength and the voice to command the parade and also thanked the military officers of Nadi for their time.

“Thirdly, I would like to thank my family for supporting this cadet parade and the career path I wish to choose.

“A word of advice to the younger students, they should be confident and follow the structure of the school in order to be leaders of the future,” he said.

His proud father, Viliame Kolinisau, said that his son had always been a very hard working child in the family.

“Being a headboy of the school is a big achievement for the family and we are really proud of that,” he said.

“For him to obtain an award today in this parade is just another achievement for him and I just have to praise the Lord for all that.

“I was a military officer. If he is interested in the military I will not stop him.”
