ANZAC Day Commemorated At Denarau

The Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club in Nadi launched a new competition to mark the annual ANZAC Day tomorrow.

During the launch at the McDonalds in Nadi yesterday, DGSFC media liaison officer Marc McElrath said they intend to grow the tournament in every year.

“DGSFC is hosting the inaugural tournament in order to commemorate the ANZAC Day,” McElrath said.

“The competition will between the Australia and New Zealand anglers.

“This competition marks the 100th anniversary of ANZAC Day and will be held every year.”

The winners will get the ANZAC Day Trophy, which was made locally.

“Thirty-five anglers aboard 14 boats have registered with some overseas anglers.

Anglers will choose whether to team up with Team Australia or Team New Zealand.

Prizes will be awarded to male champion angler, female champion, top Junior, Champion big boat, and small boat respectively.

The favourite top male angler is Scott O’Connor on board Lunarsea from Namotu Island Resort while top female angler is Michele Voss on board Salsa.

McElrath thanked the traditional sponsors McDonalds, Port Denarau Marina, Dev Corp, Namotu Island Resort and Blue Gas.

He said the competition begins at 6am and the weigh-in at 5.30pm. Members of the public are invited to witness the catch of the day.
