Fire Destroys Navua Flats

Sixty- year-old Kamlesh Sen of Navua lost his two-flat house in a fire yesterday.

He was away helping build a shed at his neighbour’s residence when the fire started.

Mr Sen lives alone in one of the flats while the other was rented out – contents of the flats were destroyed in the fire which started after midday.

“I had gone to help a few relatives to build the shed when my tenant Joeli came running and alerted me about the fire,” Mr Sen said.

“All my belongings are gone and my hopes are taken away by the fire. I live on the money from the rent,” he said.

Mr Sen said he only managed to save his television screen and a shirt that was hanging on his clothes line.

“The cost of my furniture along with my house is around $180,000.”

Meanwhile, the National Fire Authority is investigating the incident.
