Mini Show For Bua Women

A mini show will be hosted by the Soqosoqo Vakamarama o Bua next month as a lead up the National Women’s Expo in October.

Its president, Laisa Lewanavanua, said: “We are living in a communal setup and so our members are those who have left school and are in the category of more than 70 years old.

“We have seen progress in terms of our development as a group especially now that we have setup a women’s centre. Our core product is sewing uniforms for school students.

“Before the people around here bought uniforms from suppliers from other towns now we can sew it and it’s easy for them to buy it at their door step,” she said.

Mrs Lewanavanua said they were preparing well for their mini-show case scheduled from May 27 to 29 in Bua.

“Every women’s group from each district in Bua has their own programme in the lead to the show. For example after every three months they showcase their handicrafts, mats, etc,” Mrs Lewanavanua said.

Fine handicrafts, traditional mats, fans, baskets and many more items that the women of Bua are known for will be on showcase.

The Fijian Government saw the benefits of the First National Women’s Expo organised by the Ministry of Women last year. It was allocated $500,000 for this year’s expo.
