Old Church

Are some in the Methodist Church still politicising the church? Two Sundays ago, we hear from staunch churchgoers near Suva that when they went to church the sermon of the day was still being based on the politics of race.

The talatala was again preaching about politics, saying iTaukei and Indo-Fijians can never live together no matter how hard we try. His reason was that we serve different Gods. Really?

Of course, the denials will be made strongly. But the fact remains, some people never learn eh.

Troubled types

A little birdie flew in from Sydney and was very happy to provide an update on the loud voices of certain social media people.

From what we hear, not all is rosy in the homes of these loud voices. Maybe that is why they detest those who can handle politics and focus on their families.

Tavola push

From Radio Australia’s Pacific Beat and their most respected reporter, Jemima Garrett: “Negotiations on PACER Plus began in 2009, but have proved difficult because Australia and New Zealand have not been willing to make commitments on labour mobility and aid in return for the better access their goods and services will receive to Pacific Island nations.

“Former Fiji Foreign Minister and regional trade negotiator Kaliopate Tavola has used his latest blog to spell out his concerns, saying the Australian and New Zealand stance lacks flexibility and is causing division.”
