Naruwai, Bua native Isikeli Waseaqali of Natabua High School created the first upset of the 2015 Coca Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

Waseaqali won the intermediate boys 1500m defeating current record holder Farisiko Mualivu of Suva Grammar School clocking 4 minutes 15seconds.

Mualivu settled in second place with 4:16 minutes and Vilisoni Vulaono of Ratu Kadavulevu won bronze with a time of 4:19 minutes.

“I knew Farisiko would provide good challenge to me but I just gave my best. I want to win gold medal and nothing else.

“There was a lot of support for me from school and my village Naruwai and I must thank them all.

“Also I want to thank my school for giving me the opportunity to be with them this year to further my studies and sporting career,” he added.

Waseaqali was a former student of Bua College. He set a new record time of  4mins:24secs which was set last year.

Inia Sili of Suva Grammar School won the senior boys division  with a time of 4mins:13secs ahead of Viliame Dileqa of Wainimala Secondary School who won silver with a time of 4mins:17secs and Melesi Varakuka of Ratu Kadavulevu School settled with a bronze medal with a time of 4:19mins.

In the junior boys event Seveci Matanitobua of Natabua High won gold with a new record time of 4:21mins erasing the old time of 4:24mins set by Waseaqali.

Shaneel Narayan of Xavier College won silver with a time of 4:28 mins and Jacoro Ledua of Dreketi High School won bronze with a time of 4:32mins.
