It was a late birthday present for Kitione Dawai as he was named in the final 12-member squad to the remaining HSBC Sevens World Series legs in Glasgow and London.

Hard work has paid off for the 22-year-old from Drataba village in Nadi, as it has been his dream to don the white jersey.

“Playing for my country and wearing the white jersey has been my dream since I was a kid,” Dawai said.

“And to finally have a chance, it’s just a amazing feeling.

“I was named in the training squad before but didn’t make the final cut and being named again in the training squad, I knew I had to prove myself even more especially to Ben Ryan. I know I would have to do my best and this is a late birthday present for me since I spent my birthday in camp on Tuesday.

“I’ve learnt a lot from Ben and I want to prove myself to him because I know I can contribute something to this team.”

“I’m excited and nervous at the same time but these boys have really given me confidence I need to put in a lot of hard work in to prove my spot in the team.

“My family’s support plays a huge part because they have pushed me to do better and I know they are proud of what I have achieved so far.”

The HSBC Seven World Series continue in Glasgow, Scotland on May 9-10.
