For Paula Nasara, winning a gold medal and breaking the record in the sub-junior boys’ long jump final of the 2015 Coca-Cola Games was quite overwhelming.

The Year Nine student of Natabua High School was thrilled with the double achievement in his first  Games.

He shared it was very exciting for him to succeed his teammate Josefa Matau who had won the event last year.

“It’s very exciting for me and I’m very happy because it’s my first year in school, so it’s a special achievement for me,” Nasara said.

“This win is even more special because my teammate Josefa Matau won this event last year, so I’m very happy.

“It was quite a challenge preparing for the Games, but it’s been worthwhile.

“I thank God for his blessing. I thank all the Natabua supporters, my family and my coaches.”

Nasara jumped 5.84 metres, breaking the previous record of 5.47m set last year by Matau.

Settling for the silver medal was teammate Semi Matalau with a distance of 5.21m while Inoke Tagivakatini of Suva Grammar School won bronze with a distance of 4.90m.
