I’m Enjoying, Learning: Jackson

Veteran journalist and publisher of the Niue Star, Michael Jackson is enjoying and learning more during the Sports Journalist Workshop in Suva.

Organised by the Oceania National Olympic Committee and (ONOC) and Pacific Islands News Association (PINA), the workshop started on Sunday and ends on Friday.

Jackson, who has been in the media industry for 30 years, learned a lot from the presentation made by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) on Sunday.

“I’ve learned many things which I will take back to Niue,” Jackson said.

“Especially the importance of the sporting federations to understand the role of the media.

“The sporting federations back home need to understand media will help them secure sponsors.”

The former Niue politician also applauded ONOC and PINA for organising the week-long workshop.

“I’ve been to a few workshops similar to this, but this one is the best one,” Jackson said.

“This is because we’ve a good mixture of young and veteran sports journalists learning from each other.

“Learning never stops until you die.

“I believe it’s time for us to change the mindset of sports people on our islands to start thinking positively about the media.”

Jackson worked with the Tohi Tala newspaper from 1973-1983 in Niue which was later privatised and is now privately owned by Jackson since 1993 until today.
