Three rugby scouts were present at the Tokatoka Westfield Dragons Rugby Club 7s trials in Nadi yesterday.

The scouts include Top Marque Sport (NZ) general manager Shane Singe, Jono Stuart (France), and Gareth Morgan (UK).

Singe was impressed with the big turnout and the battle at the Airports Fiji Limited ground.

“We want the boys to be given the opportunity to play in the best clubs we work with around the world,” Singe said.

“We would never put a player forward who is not good enough because he is not going to survive.”

Singe secured rugby contracts in France for Votua, Ba brothers; Filipe Nakosi and Josua Tuisova.

Also present was Glen Subritzky, former manager of Rupeni Caucaunibuca.

Tokatoka Westfield Dragon Rugby Club president Ponijese Rayasi said the trials attracted 98 Under-20 players.

“This is the first time in Fiji for a club to invite overseas scouts to identify local talents.” Rayasi said the trial was in partnership with Nadi Rugby Union and Fiji Rugby Union. A similar trial will be held at the University of the South Pacific ground in Suva today.
