BSP’s $5k Boost To Athletics Fiji Team

The Shop N Save Athletics Fiji team to the Pacific Games received a funding boost from Bank South Pacific yesterday.

BSP’s chief financial officer Rajeshwar Singh handed $5000 to Milika Tuivanuavou, Younis Bese and Aaron Powell who were accompanied by Athletics Fiji president Joseph Rodan Snr.

Rodan acknowledged the bank for its continuous support not only for athletics but for other sports as well. “Minor sports suffer due to funding,” Rodan said.

“We’re so grateful that we have another sponsor for the Pacific Games. We’re very fortunate that for the last nine months we’ve received a lot of sponsorship from a lot of companies including BSP and our major sponsor Shop N Save.

“To me Shop N Save coming on board was a big factor for us. It was a winning factor in a sense that the first time in Fiji we have a supermarket supporting athletics.

“For us it was very heartening and very encouraging as it will help us to achieve our objectives.”

Team Fiji has high hopes of winning medals for the country.

“Our objective is to win eight, nine or 10 at the Pacific Games,” Rodan said. “We’ve done our plan and we believe that we can come back with 10 gold medals.”

The 2015 Pacific Games is scheduled for July 4-18 in Papua New Guinea.
