Police are investigating a case where a fire partially damaged the Nawaicoba Community Post in the outskirts of Nadi Town on Tuesday night.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a Police officer manning the post put out the fire. “The incident occurred at about 11.20pm and the post officer managed to put out the fire with buckets of water, preventing it from spreading to other rooms,” Ms Naisoro said

She said some items in the post were partly destroyed and investigations were underway to determine the cause of fire.

Police have also confirmed that the United States citizen who was driving a rental vehicle that was involved in a road accident near Yaqara in Rakiraki on Sunday, was airlifted to Australia on Tuesday morning.

Ms Naisoro said a passenger in the vehicle was discharged for further treatment in New Zealand.

“The driver of the government vehicle who allegedly caused the accident after hitting a cow and later colliding with the rental vehicle remains admitted at the Tavua Hospital and is in a stable condition,” she said.

The driver of the government vehicle, belonging to the Ministry of Forests and Fisheries, will be interviewed once he is discharged from hospital.

Meanwhile, the man who was caught by Police in relation to the Aerotown Mobil Service Station robbery is still in Police custody at the Nadi Hospital.
