Rabi, Kioa Development To Start

A team from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Engineers are ready to start rural housing developments on Rabi and Kioa.

This is for areas affected by Cyclone Thomas.

The RFMF engineers from Suva and the Northern Division will work on projects allocated by the Government.

A Government barge has started transporting building materials such as wooden housing structures, paints, panel doors etc for the construction of 24 houses on Rabi and Kioa.

RFMF engineer Sergeant Josese Tuisawana said it would take one to two weeks to build a wooden house. The total cost for one wooden house is $16,000.

Commanding Officer (CO) of the Engineer’s unit, Lieutenant-Colonel Semi Mocelutu and some senior officers visited projects undertaken by the unit in the Northern Division last month.

While addressing his troops in Labasa, Lieutenant-Colonel Mocelutu told them to be steadfast and that they were career soldiers while undertaking Government rural development projects.

He reminded them that it was imperative for them to maintain their health and physical fitness while undertaking their rural development project responsibilities in the north.
