Thirty officers from Fiji Corrections Service institutions around the country are undergoing a six –week junior Subordinate Officers Promotion Course at the Corrections Academy at Naboro.

Opening the course yesterday, deputy Commissioner of Corrections, Superintendent Akuila Namakadre told participants to change their attitudes towards work and other responsibilities assigned to them.

He said officers must contribute with a positive attitude to improve in their work.

“This six-week training should be taken seriously by all of you since this is our Commissioner’s Intent and we need to take it as a challenge,” Superintendent Namakadre said.

He said that there was a strong need because officers to assist the Corrections Rehabilitation Unit in reducing the number of recidivists (a person who continues to commit crimes even after being caught and punished).

“It’s time now to focus on your performance, show commitments and always pull up your socks in every work you do.

“As a leader, you will have to make decisions to your men, so you might have to think outside the box as well,” he said.

Superintendent Namakadre said officers needed to learn respective work that they are doing at every workplace in a better, more correct, organised and structured way of doing things right, especially at the operational level.
