International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach will meet President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at Government House at 10am today.

And he will meet Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at 10am tomorrow.

Bach arrived yesterday to attend the Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC)General Assembly and Associated Meetings being held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

“IOC president Thomas Bach will make a courtesy visit to President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at 10am and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on Saturday,” ONOC regional media development specialist Matai Akauola said.

ONOC president Dr Robin Mitchell said the main reason for Bach’s visit was to update the region.

“There are quite a lot of significant changes in term of how the National Olympic Committee operates,” Dr Mitchell said.

Later today Bach will meet with the National Olympic Committee.

This is the first visit to Fiji for Bach.

Bach represented Germany in fencing and won gold at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal in the team foil event.  A year later he was crowned world champion at the World Championship in Buenos Aires.
