BSP Robbers On Another Case

Five out of six men sentenced over the BSP robbery will take a plea in the High Court in Suva next month for another robbery at the Peninsula Hotel.

Tevita Sugu, Solomoni Qurai, Josaia Usumaki, Epeli Qaraniqio and Deshwar Dutt are being charged with aggravated robbery of the Peninsula Hotel, Suva, in 2012.

High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo adjourned the case to next month to provide the accused time to consult their lawyers.

Sugu is represented by Rosemary Drau and Qurai has been granted legal aid.

Usumaki has retained his earlier lawyer from the BSP case, Kunal Singh, while Qaraniqio and Dutt have waived their rights to legal representation.

Justice Temo has given time for Qurai’s lawyer to meet his client because he was not in court yesterday.

The matter will be called on June 3, 2015, for plea to be taken.

The five men together with another are already serving sentences for the BSP robbery case.
