Five lawyers were admitted to the bar at the High Court in Suva by Chief Justice Anthony Gates yesterday.

Waisake Kedraika and Bulou Alitiana Kurudrani were admitted as legal practitioners, Aleem Shah, Aminiasi Turuva as barristers and solicitors and Aisea Veidredreki Drodrolagi as practitioner.

Justice Gates in officiating at the swearing-in urged them to be ethical and honest in their field of work.

“Do not forget you are officers of the court.

“It is a complicated field of work; it helps you to raise the profile so that you conduct yourselves ethically, honestly and properly,” he said.

“Besides studying ethics, you need to be thorough and your tutors and lecturers have shown you how to go about your work.”

He told the new lawyers not to take anything related to their work for granted.

“Checking things is part of your way of life as a lawyer,” he said.
