Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy said students had been scheduled to complete all syllabus in Term One and Two. Term Three is revision term.

This was revealed during this week’s Fijian Teachers Association annual general meeting in Suva.

Association outgoing acting general secretary and principal administration officer, Mikaele Leawere said during the AGM the syllabus were planned for a 12-month basis basis.

“We only hope that the Ministry would enhance the syllabus coverage for students and maybe give them more time as many students may be slow in reading,” Mr Leawere said.

“We are looking at the students’ social economic background, the school system and their behaviour when it comes to learning. These are contributing factors that some students will not be able to cope with finishing off syllabus within two terms instead of three terms.

“For slow learners, there are extra classes from Monday to Friday after school for whole of Term Two. Then we have Term Three for revision only,” he said.

“There is nothing stopping the teachers to take Saturday classes for slow learners,” Mr Reddy said.
