Two Police officers from the People’s Republic of China were welcomed by the Commissioner of Police, Commissioner Bernardus Groenewald, and senior officers at the Fiji Police headquarters.

Supervisor Class 1 Wang Xiang and Superintendent Class 1 Zhang Zheng from the Hubei Provincial Public Security Department will be based primarily with the Forensics Department, but will also be sharing their knowledge and expertise in other fields.

They are in the country on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security and their attachment is the outcome of continuing relations between China and the Fijian Government.

The officers arrived into the country early this week and will spend the next few days visiting all Police units in a familiarisation tour.

Commissioner Groenewald said the Fiji Police Force welcomed and appreciated the presence of the two officers who are experts in their respective fields of forensics and traffic operations.

“We look forward to learning as much as we can in the crucial area of forensics and traffic management especially since we have had an increase in the number of road accidents and fatalities,” Mr Groenewald said.

Supervisor Class 1 Wang Xiang, who has a Biology Doctorate in Genetics, said he was eager to share his knowledge with his Fijian counterparts. “The relationship between the Fiji Police Force and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security continues to grow and we are more than happy to not only share our knowledge but also learn from Police here in Fiji,” he said.

This is the third attachment of officers from the People’s Republic of China since the signing of the Police Co-operation Agreement between the Fiji and Chinese governments.
