Leadership in schools matters a lot when it comes to delivery of ultimate output, says the  Minister for Education, National Heritage and Arts, Mahendra Reddy.

Mr Reddy made the comment while closing the Future Leaders Workshop in Labasa yesterday.

He said any leader had to first understand the whole business process and what were the inputs and outputs.

“Unless you can differentiate the inputs and outputs, you will continue to circle around the inputs and get lost, therefore the output is not delivered,” Mr Reddy said.

He said this was often a lot of problem in so many institutions where staff tended to spend lot of time in the input and rather not thinking if the output would be delivered or not.

“All leaders must not lose sight of the output that the institution is trying to deliver.”

Mr Reddy said institutions played an important part in delivering better outcomes.

“When it comes to the position of leadership, the position that you hold, this means you are now a public person.”

Meanwhile, Mr Reddy noted that being a leader means doing the right thing.
