Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama received a courtesy call yesterday from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach.

Mr Bach led a high-level delegation to meet the Prime Minister at his office at Government Buildings, Suva.

In welcoming the president and his delegation, the Prime Minister said Fiji looked forward to working with the IOC to strengthen Fiji’s sporting sector.

He pointed out his Government’s commitment to develop the sporting sector for Fiji’s youth.

Discussions focused on Fiji’s participation at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, in particular, the rugby 7s tournament that will feature for the first time in Rio.

The visiting delegation included the IOC vice president and president of the Australian National Olympic Committee John Coates and Oceania National Olympics Committees president and IOC member Dr Robin Mitchell.
