Ovalau Need More Games, Says Waqa

Ovalau has decided to take a new approach this year in order to lift their standard in the 2015 Skipper Cup competition which starts later this month.

Coach Etuate Waqa made the comment after team played Naitasiri in a friendly match last week.

“We’re so fortunate to have hosted Naitasiri last Saturday and it was just to give us a fair indication of where we are as a team,” Waqa said.

“After having about seven weeks of training, it was good to get the boys some game time.

“We’ve been working on our endurance as well as our strength and power to improve our standard this year.

“We’re so fortunate to be assisted by the national team’s weights coach Joe Whippy who has been assisting the players at every gym session on building their strength.

“After the game last weekend with Naitasiri, we’ve gained a fair idea of where we currently stand and what work still needs to be done so that we can prepare properly and thoroughly to address all the weak areas we experienced in the warm-up match.”

The team plays Skipper Cup defending champions Nadroga at Nasau Park this Saturday.

“We’re very thankful to the Nadroga Rugby Union for accepting our invitation to come for the warm-up match,” Waqa said.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Rugby Union confirmed yesterday that the fixtures for the 2015 Skipper Cup should be ready by Thursday.
