$200,000 Demand

A mataqali in a village in Serua is demanding a down payment of $200,000 by the company to test for copper on its land.

Testing had been carried out and now the company wants to drill to confirm copper deposit. Mickey Bird has been reliably informed that the mataqali members are keen for work to go ahead. But some were making the   demand.

Serving who?

Now Mickey Bird has been informed that some former civil servants living in their own villages are misleading the villagers.

They are stopping many developments by asking the villagers not to sign the consent letter.

Driver thrown out

An excavator driver gathering gravel at the Namosi River just walked out of his job.

An Asian company after receiving its license to collect gravel from the river had hired this excavator.

The driver was piling gravel when suddenly he was thrown out from his seat into the river.

He did not see who did it.

Helping hands

Two mechanics from the Nadave training centre are part of the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs roadshow for Namosi and Serua province.

One of them was at Nabukaluka and worked to the early hours of the morning repairing brushcutters and chainsaws.

At Navua, he repaired a chainsaw that had not been working for months.
