What happened: Labasa defeated Rewa 2-0 in the Vodafone Fijian FACT final at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The ‘Babasiga Lions’ fans were in jubilant mood after the side displayed exciting football.

The game started with both strikers of the teams testing the goalkeepers.

Rewa goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau copped the most and was not able to defend his fort well.

Ravinesh Karan Singh drew first blood from a header in the first quarter.

Rewa applied pressure but unfortunately defender Simione Maikali was red carded after he fouled Edwin Shahayam.

Labasa led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second-half, Labasa continued the match with the same momentum which resulted in Taione Kerevanua striking from close range inside the box to score second goal.

Star turn: Kerevanua was the star player for Labasa.

Comments: Labasa Coach Bal Sanju Reddy applauded the performance of his players.

“They played well the win is dedicated to all the mothers of the players.

“While many children are at home with their mothers, our players have been sacrificing a lot in camp for two weeks.

“I’m proud of my players and this is a well deserved win for the team.”

It was a day of success for Labasa team as Taniela Waqa won the player of the tournament award while goalkeeper Akuila Mataisuva won the best goalkeeper award.

Peni Finau of Lautoka won the Golden Boot Award after scoring five goals in the tournament.
